Education - The Most Powerful Weapon Which You Can Use to Change the World - Free Essay Example

Nelson Mandela has once said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. My personal goal for the future in my classroom is to educate students by challenging them to their full potential as well as their needs. In my classroom, I want my students to feel challenged, I am willing to see them think outside the box and be able to work with different styles of learning. I want them to feel as if anything is possible as well as if they could do things they thought they could not do. Throughout the ways of learning in my classroom space, students should be able to determine their own strengths and their weaknesses. They will determine their own strengths and their weakness by identifying what learning style they work best on and how they will work on it as well. The educational principles that guide me as a future educator are to encourage students, develop cooperation among students, communication on high expectations, active learning, and emphasize time on tasks that are given to the students. I will also want students to respect the ways of learning. I want students to be able to share their ideas with one another and to attend school events, which will be communicating with each other. Students will be encouraged to present their views and ideas of the concept itself to the class as well as participating as an individual or a group. In my workplace, I will know students by name or any nicknames they prefer to be called. As a future educator, I will want my students to be able to manage time on assignments by themselves in order for me to know how long to stick to one subject. In the classroom, my students will be open-minded about every idea that is communicated in the classroom. The purpose of teaching is to be able to help the students with their needs. The three important purposes of teaching are to help students academic progress, showing the students on how to learn to take responsibilities for their school work and to encourage them to have life skills that are necessary for them to have in their adulthood. As an educator, I will help students show or have progress on their academics by showing my students how to making time into doing things easier or how to fix things into their schedule. I am willing to see my students achieve their goals, as in getting the grade they will want to have in a test or to be able to graduate with their class. Another thing is that I am also willing to show my students how to take responsible into their own hands, for this, I will show them how to get things done and turning it on time as well. My students will also gain life skills knowledge that will be needed when they go into the real world, as in entering college. Th ey will be able to experience how the life ahead of them is. I will show them how to be on time, responsible, respectful and everything else they need for the real world. In my teaching space, I will teach the students how life will be head of them with all the responsibilities that they will need in life. The students purpose of education is to be able to learn new things that they did not know they could do or did not know they can learn while they are being taught. I believe that education is important to all students within the different communities because in the classroom, teachers are their motivators. Students look up to their teachers to be able to push them when things get tough. Teachers are also their encouragers. They should be able to encourage their students to succeed in school. Every student will trust in their teachers to teach them something new and to help them through the tough roads. All students should be able to learn within different ways and be able to help each other out. For someone who is truly into learning something and or new things in the classroom, it means for them to gain potential and knowledge. The student that is being taught and truly learning something can be able to understand the concept and being able to apply their own knowledge. They can also explain what they have learned to someone who is not in the same pace as the rest so that they understand what is being taught. An example can be a language you are learning especially the classes in school, like Spanish. There can be students that do not understand what is trying to be said, so you, as the classmate that is willing to help, are gaining all the knowledge that you know or have learned from the teacher, and explaining it or break it down to your classmate so that they have better understood the concept. Students should be able to express themselves, to be open-minded and optimistic, as well as being able to take responsibilities for their own actions around their classmates. I believe that they should be able to communicate with each other and push each other to do better. As a future teacher, I believe that students should have the right to have their own learning styles and be able to show their classmates different styles of learning in the teaching environment. I also believe that having high energy around my students will have them with the mindset that everything is possible and with a positive attitude. As an educator, one of the keys to having a successful environment is to have positivity around them. The most important strategy for teaching, to me, is to be able to identify how the student works. This strategy is important to me because as a teacher, you will not have students that work the same way. There are different ways of learning, learning by doing hands on activities, learning by visualizing how to do the work, and learning by hearing audios. This is important to me in the teaching space because I am willing to show each and every student in my classroom the different styles of learning. As a future educator, my students will learn the ways of learning by communicating with one another and being able to learn from each other as students.

Business Plan about Customer Service

Collin MacGibson, President of On-Time Technology Products, recently returned from a Manufacturing Technology Conference in downtown Chicago. As a result of talking with leaders of other companies, he is now considering establishing a tiered service system, an idea he shared with Mary Graff. Proposed Tiered Service Plan Mr. MacGibsons basic thought is to reward their B2B customers who give On -Time Technology Products $100,000 worth of business an end-of-year thank you payment that reflects a 5% discount on all yearly purchases. In addition, those customers would receive a commitment to next-day turnaround time on the resolution of all customer service problems. Moreover, the customers who purchase $500,000 or more annually would receive a 10% discount and free delivery. The average B2B sale is $25,000. As a CSR, what is your initial reaction to this new-tiered service plan by Mr. MacGibson, and what would be some advantages/ disadvantages of going to a tiered service approach at On -Time Technology Products? Would there be a risk of losing some of your smaller clients by using this approach? Current Service Plan at OTTP Provide all customers, regardless on the amount of their purchase, frequency of purchase or dollar amount spent per year the same special attention. Our theory at OTTP is that a customer who makes a small purchase today might make a large purchase tomorrow. All of our customers receive the same price, convenience, and service. Introduction In today’s competitive world, the customer’s expectations have grown by leaps and bounds, in order to add new customers and retain existing customers, companies are offering low cost and high quality products moreover the competitive market is making them give additional offers to the customer which may be in the form of an additional service, a gift or a discount etc.. It is also important for the customer, on the other hand to evaluate and find out if the glossy offer given to him really makes any business sense or is just a business stunt. In this paper we will see based on the case study that how with Mr. Macgibson’s new scheme impact the customers in terms of sales and loyalty. A new-tiered service plan by Mr. MacGibson: The reaction The introduction of a tiered service plan will be a new introduction for all the existing customers and therefore they will evaluate this feature from their point of view i.e. keeping in mind the kind of business they give On-Time Technology Products hence the initial reaction may have a mixed response, where few will welcome this policy their might be others who may not appreciate the same, considering that the scheme is not independent of the revenue generated and the discount provided is directly proportional to the   business given (Dollars per-annum). It will be reasonable to speculate the possibility of business gains as the procurement department will definitely find this valuable for any enterprise and there for there is a chance that just in case there are multiple service providers serving the company, they might just want to reallocate all their business to On-Time Technology Products considering the new package which is being offered however their might be other flip sides to the same. Advantages and Disadvantages of going to a tiered service approach at On -Time Technology Products The evaluation of any new scheme, product or service is done taken in mind the customer’s perspective and with multiple customers being service, there is always a mixed reaction from them, hence it is good to think about the advantages and disadvantages of any new introduction. Before we talk about the advantages and disadvantages we must observe the fact that the discount of 5% and 10% are available to the customer giving an annual business of above $1,00,000 and $5,00,000 respectively, but the average customers are at $25,000 as of now. If we talk about the advantages there might be a few customer spread across different service providers who will decide to switch to OTTP in order to reach the total amount that makes them eligible for a discount, similarly the customers eligible of 5% discount might just raise the business in order to be eligible for the tier 2 discount. Secondly, this may also help to add new customers who are looking for a better and cheaper service and a word of mouth or corporate referral can help them to learn about the tier based system and that will help to produce further attraction. Moving on to the disadvantages, at first if we look at the average sales we will realize that the most of the customers will not get any benefit out of this new tiered system and therefore they might be a sudden disappointment due to this in few customers which may lead to customer attrition as there is a chance that the scale of those customers is not that big that they can generate the desired business for OTT P, secondly this will go against both the service4 plan and Theory of OTTP, as the treatment will now be based on the basis of dollar impact and can be considered as biased by the customers generating lesser revenue. Risk of losing some of your smaller clients by using this approach: Analyze As talked in the other sections above, there is a definite risk of some small clients, taking a step back as they might now thing that the services are being provided in a biased manner and that the theory of giving similar cost and service to all the clients is no more valued and therefore either they may decide to switch immediately or slowly detach themselves taking the business elsewhere. There fore we cannot deny from the possibility of loosing a few customers in case if we apply this approach.

Obesity in America Essay - 1065 Words

One of the most commonly discussed issues of America in the last few decades has been obesity. It remains one of the biggest problems in American society and requires a careful, systematic but also immediate solution. Obesity is a term used to describe body weight that is much greater than what is considered healthy. Today, 65% of adults in the U.S. are overweight and half of those are obese. The rates for children are smaller but they are not satisfying either: 15% are overweight and another 15% are headed that way (Lemonick). There are many causes that contribute to these high†¦show more content†¦There is scientific proof that obesity is linked to many serious health conditions of our time. Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and osteoarthritis [(National Institutes of Health) (Hasla m)] are just some of them and were responsible for almost 400,000 deaths in America in 2004 alone (Goldfarb). These conditions even if they do not cause death, are serious enough to significantly decrease the quality of an individual’s life. The aesthetic effects of obesity, on the other hand, are known to cause depression and low self-esteem. Unfortunately, the criteria that most people are judged and evaluated today are based on the stereotypes created by advertisements and lifestyle in general. A thin, fit person has more chances of being likable and preferable than someone who is overweight, in many aspects of everyday life, including the workplace. All these situations create a very negative impact on the mentality of an overweight person. Obesity is extremely expensive, too. The nutrition choices that obese people make not only decrease their health levels, but also create a strong impact in American economy. In 2003 Americans spent 75 billion dollars in medical treatm ent for issues connected to obesity (CDC). Half of those costs were covered by Medicare and Medicaid or, in other words, by the taxpayers. Hurricane Andrew Essay Example For Students

Hurricane Andrew Essay Hurricanes are notoriously capricious. Andrew was a compact system. A little larger system, or one making landfall just a few nautical miles further to the north, would have been catastrophic for heavily populated, highly commercialized and no less vulnerable areas to the north. That area includes downtown Miami, Miami Beach, Key Biscayne and Fort Lauderdale. Andrew also left the highly vulnerable New Orleans region relatively unscathed. Andrew moved nearly due westward when over land and crossed the extreme southern portion of the Florida peninsula in about four hours. Although the hurricane weakened about one category on the during the transit over land, and the pressure rose to about 950 mb, Andrew was still a major hurricane when its eyewall passed over the extreme southwestern Florida coast. The first of two cycles of modest intensification commenced when the eye reached the Gulf of Mexico. Also, the hurricane continued to move at a relatively fast pace while its track gradually turned toward the west-northwest. When Andrew reached the north-central Gulf of Mexico, the high pressure system to its northeast weakened and a strong mid-latitude trough approached the area from the northwest. Steering currents began to change. The Clintons, President Bush, at the time, Governor Lawton Chiles were the leaders that came to see the magnitude of this disaster. Seeing the situations in the aftermath of Andrew, troops were sent in to protect and help distribute food, water, clothes and supplies. They also provided medical help. People had guns and were not afraid to use them to save what little they had left. A curfew was established to keep people off the streets and out of trouble. Andrew began as a tropical depression in the Atlantic almost a week before hitting South Florida. The next day, which was August 17th , it was the first tropical storm of the season. It was moving with amazing quickness and strength in a west and northwest direction. Finally on August 22nd, tropical storm Andrew became Hurricane Andrew, a category 4 hurricane. (Fig.3) August 23rd Hurricane Andrew had winds of 150mph. Hours later, being a category 4 hurricane, Andrews pressure fell and had winds of about 175mph. It was on August 24 when Hurricane Andrew arrived in South Florida. Andrews fury began early that day at 4:30am. Andrews power and magnitude was heard in every direction. Objects of every kind where airborne, roofs where flying, vehicles were being tossed around like toys. Boats were making their way from the water onto the streets. Total chaos would be the best description of what went on. By the time that the sun rose, the destruction was obvious. At 11am that same morning of the 24th Andrew was working its way across South Florida. The path of destruction that Andrew left was about 30 miles wide. Andrew wasnt finished yet, back into the Atlantic ocean Andrew regained some of the power that was lost in his South Florida visit and was now heading to Louisiana. Louisiana suffered the similar showdown that the South Floridians endured. Destructions were also brought about from tornadoes that came with Andrews power. (Fig.4) Social and economic impact of the disaster: In the aftermath of Andrew there seemed to have been a disappearance in social classes. Everyone was now in need. The rich were in line with the poor to accept donated food and supplies. It did not matter how much or how little money you had, everyone was treated the same. With 30 billion dollars in damage, help needed to come quickly to help rebuild. FEMA ( Federal Emergency Management Agency) came to the aid of thousands, President George Bush requested 7.6 billion dollars from Congress and Governor Lawton Chiles requested more since that would not be sufficient to rebuild all of the damage. Economic losses were due to businesses that were closed, people not being able to work and the damages. This had a very high negative impact on the economy of South Florida. Everyone relied on help from the government, donations from people in other parts of the country and organizations such as the Red Cross. Personal suggestion for prevention and recovery of disaster: There isnt a way of preventing a hurricane, but there are ways to prevent injuries. Family History And Its Effects On Children Essay They can evacuate or follow building codes. Its not a matter of intruding privately owned lands; its a matter of safety and protection. Governmental agencies should have the right to regulate the use of privately owned lands in hazard prone areas.
